FoKus Montreal
2 June – 16 July 2005
FoKus Montreal presented in collaboration with the Bureau du Québec of Barcelona, the Quebec Ministry of Culture and the Conseil des Arts, a selection of Montreal’s contemporary creation through disciplines such as film, music, visual arts and lectures, live events and exhibitions.
This project, in two parts, involved 12 artists in various disciplines. KBB intends to develop part of its line of programming by creating a dynamic of exchanges that began with Montréal as the first guest.
Both FoKus Montreal and the next invited countries (Switzerland, Finland, Iceland and Austria, included in the 2005-2008 programme, had the support of several ministries of culture of the different countries invited by KBB.
Basically, FOKUS MONTREAL was a proposal for exchanges where artists living in Catalonia invite their colleagues from other countries with the main purpose of expanding and creating networks for the dissemination of emerging art.
“FoKus Montreal” created a bridge over new possibilities of cultural interaction to give continuity to the relationships initiated. This first project of these characteristics was modulated in a flexible way between June and July 2005 at KBB. The three selected visual artists, Catherine Bolduc, Eric Sauvé and Manuela Lalic, as a result of the curatorial work done by Sigismond de Vajay during his research trip to Montreal in April 2005, carried out three installations in Situ in the space of Kültur Buró Barcelona. In the second event, works related to image and sound were presented, with the participation of the artists Skoltz_Kolgen, Gennaro de Pascuale, Guillaume Cottu Dumont, EGG and the programme of the institutions Vìdeographe, Mois de la Photo, Galerie vox and the Montreal University of the Arts.
