Toit du Monde / KBB invite to the new Argentine launch of the art publishing and distribution enterprise In the gardens of the Larreta Museum of Buenos Aires
Musicalisateur : Dañel Mirkin Frois
After 5 ambitious projects realized in 2011 in the city of Buenos Aires, the associations Toit du Monde / KBB present a new facet of their activities, the editorial projects.
The initiative includes the self-editing of publications and prints by artists and the distribution of books by artists from all over the world in Argentina. To begin with, the first step was taken with the circulation of more than 170 titles, among which there are 130 monographs of artists from more than 25 countries.
Among the books published or co published you will find monographs by Jorge Macchi, Matías Duville, Adrián Villar Rojas, Diego Bianchi (all of them published in 2011, and for almost all of them being their first monograph), Sigismond de Vajay (2009), as well as two artist compiled books: Of Bridges & Borders (2009) and Toit du Monde (2002).
The edition and production of prints co-edited with Malevo estampa already includes graphic work by Swiss artists L/B and Fabrice Gygi and Argentinean Matías Duville.
This initiative included a distribution agreement with the Swiss art book publisher JRP|Ringier (today JRP I Editions), an important international contemporary art publisher. It therefore not only distributes KBB’s and Toit du Monde’s editions but also those of JRP.
Among these titles we highlight monographs of important artists such as, Henry Moore, Richard Prince, Liam Gillick, Fabrice Gygi, Martin Boyce, Xavier Veilhan, Tony Oursler, Subodh Gupta, Thomas Hirshhorn, Ugo Rondinone, Rodney Graham, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Philippe Parreno, Mike Kelly, Jonathan Monk, John Baldessari, Henrik Olesen, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, David Claerbout, Carsten Nicolai, Alighiero e Boetti, Alfredo Jaar, and many more.
What is the idea behind the project
Open, oxygenate, promote, educate, exchange, encourage free expression. To demand diversity, to show what is done outside, to reach the country with high level and impeccable quality editions. We also take advantage of the wind in the sails generated by the framework of “Buenos Aires world’s book capital 2011”, encouraging new ways of looking at art books.
We want to open a dialogue with the Universities and the students, generating profitable dynamics, launching products to the market at an accessible price for the Argentine reality. We seek to promote the dynamics of art book diffusion among Latin America and the rest of the world.
This initiative aims to strengthen contemporary thinking, providing a new range of art books in Argentina that have not yet arrived. Also, we are interested in ensuring quality co-productions that allow us to co-edit books by Argentine artists in co-edition with publishers in Argentina and JRP I Editions to achieve a greater international exposure that allows us to reach a large audience.
This project counted with a courtesy toast, Bodegas Salentine.
Supported by the Patronage Law in the framework of Buenos Aires, the book’s world capital.
